Massage has been used for thousands of years as a simple and effective method of attaining and maintaining good health and its benefits have long been recognised in many cultures throughout the world. Most people regard massage as a luxury. Instead, view it as a lifesaver. In daily life our bodies are flooded with stress hormones that make our heart beat faster, divert energy away from digestion and cause us to indulge in `ail or nothing'  thinking. Massage restores equilibrium.

Massage releases muscular and mental tension, reducing toxins and stress levels, leaving you mentally and physically relaxed and energised. It will open up a new world of relaxation and well-being for you.

Our massage therapist holds a minimum qualification of a Diploma in Remedial Massage and is a member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS) and Association of Massage Therapists (ATM). Recognised by most major health fluids, works with the physiotherapist, ensuring you are in good hands.

The biological and mental effects of massage, the latest science shows, that massage therapy is more "medicine" than pleasure after all.

All About Massage

Because a good massage does far more than relax tight and aching muscles... it can cause biological changes as well.

According to the study published in the Journal of Alternative and complementary Medicine, the blood samples showed that the "deep tissue massage" caused significant decreases in the blood levels of the stress hormone cortisol and increases a type of white blood cell (lymphocytes) that are part of your immune system.

Cortisol is released by your adrenal glands, it's good in short doses, it gives you a quick burst of energy, heightens your memory, increases your pain tolerance, and improves your immunity.

Too many people are in constant state of stress, cortisol levels are constantly too high and causes a suppressed immune system, a decrease bone density, decrease muscle tissue, high blood pressure thyroid function and an increase in belly fat.

Adults who received 45 minutes of light massage experienced benefits including decreased levels of hormone adrenal corticotrophin, which increases oxytocin.

Oxytocin is that famous "hormone of love" which is known to help facilitate bonding between people. It also reduces cortisol levels.

Self care techniques

Your massage therapist might teach relaxing breathing techniques or gentle exercises to increase flexibility and teach your muscles more efficient movements. Other common techniques show how to release tension by contracting and releasing muscles or pressing "trigger points" or using hot packs.
